Synopsis
Small and mid-sized businesses often run on relationships, institutional knowledge, and the leadership of a few key people. Without a clear succession plan, an unexpected departure, retirement, illness, or ownership transition can quickly create disruption for employees, clients, vendors, and family stakeholders. This session will help SMB owners and advisors move from reactive decision-making to a practical continuity plan that protects business value, reduces risk, and prepares the next generation of leadership.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify the key risks SMBs face when succession planning is delayed or ignored, including operational, financial, leadership, and client-retention risks.
  • Evaluate the core components of an effective succession plan, including ownership transition, leadership development, governance, contingency planning, and communication.
  • Develop practical next steps for creating or improving a succession plan that supports business continuity, protects stakeholders, and preserves long-term enterprise value.
